Types of midwives explained
Welcome
This blog was created for several reasons. First, I am a student nurse-midwife taking a market research class and one of the class requirements is to survey consumers regarding their knowledge and perception about midwifery care and out-of-hospital birth options. Also, I hope that visiting this blog will help to educate consumers about their childbirth options. Finally, I am simply passionate about birth! I could spend hours talking, reading, or watching videos about birth and this blog gives me a chance to do just this and share my passion in the process.
Here's how you can help me. Peruse the blog, visit the various sites via links I have posted, watch a video or two (be warned, some videos may show an actual birth), read about midwives and what they do, and learn about out-of-hospital births. Then, take the survey. The only criteria for completing the survey is that you live in the greater Grand Rapids area, or plan to come to this area for maternity care. Thanks for participating! FYI, all surveys are anonymous and I will not know who you are unless you add very specific details in the comment section. I know many of you aren't concerned about this, but just thought I'd put it out there.

Birthing Babies Together: A Canadian Documentary
I ran across this YouTube video of a trailer for a documentary created by several Canadian medical students. They want to raise awareness about midwifery care and clear up some misconceptions. Did I mention that these are med-students? Who think that women should be empowered with birth options? I can't wait to see Birthing Babies Together! Birthing Babies Together-Trailer
